Reading Takes You Out of This World!
The library houses over 8,000 Fiction, Non-fiction and Early Reader books. The library offers a variety of reference materials as well.
A collection of education videos are available for the teachers to check out for instructional use in the classroom.
All classes go through an orientation during the first part of the school year. Through collaborative efforts with the fine educators at our school I also provide lessons throughout the school year as needed.
Part of our library is the Destiny Library Manager. This circulation program permits parents and children to browse the books that are shelved in the library and set up a shelf list of books approved by the parent, all being done from your home computer. Also available on the Nueces Canyon Elementary Library Homepage are links to educational resource sights such as EBSCO and Britannica Online, educational learning sites such as Dr.Seuss and Funbrain, as well as local newspaper links. Please take a moment and visit the Nueces Canyon Elementary Library Homepage by clicking on the word Destiny in the sidebar to your left.
I am the Accelerated Reader Program Coordinator. I manage the AR program, order AR books, AR quizzes, administer the STAR test (a reading comprehension test), order and organize prizes for the incentive program and recognize students for their achievements within the AR program.
The library will be hosting book fairs twice yearly. I hope to see many students buying books for leisure reading at home especially for the summer. Volunteers during the book fair are greatly appreciated. If interested in helping you may contact me at (830) 597-3218.
There is student access to the internet on four computer stations that also serve as testing centers for the AR program.
